Muslims of Southern Russia mark the start of Ramadan
Charity events, collective Iftars and Nashid parties were held in Dagestan, Kabardino-Balkaria and Ingushetia on the occasion of the start of the holy month of Ramadan.
In 2019, May 6 is the first day of fasting on the holy month of Ramadan. In Makhachkala, special places have been opened for believers for holding the Iftar – the evening fast breaking in the evening, after the sunset. One of the largest such places is arranged at the Central Mosque, where many believers will be able to come to have their Iftar every evening, the "Dagestan" TV Company has reported.
In Derbent, the start of Ramadan was marked by the Nashid festive party. The event was organized by the Muftiate of Dagestan; and members of the "Nashidul Islam" company performed before the participants, the "IslamDag" website has reported.
The Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM) of Kabardino-Balkaria organized a charity event to mark the start of Ramadan. Needy residents of the republic received foodstuffs packages containing meat, pasta, rice, tea, sugar, flour, dates and sweets, the RIA "Kabardino-Balkaria" reported on May 6.
On the first day of fasting, the Mayoralty of Magas organized the charity supper "Ramadan Tabernacle". According to Beslan Tsechoev, the Mayor, more than 200 people took part in the collective Iftar.
