Ingushetia: protest leaders arrested for two months

The court arrested for two months Akhmed Barakhoev and Musa Malsagov, leaders of the protests in Ingushetia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the arrest of three protest leaders in Ingushetia, Akhmed Barakhoev, Musa Malsagov, and Barakh Chemurziev, expired on April 13. None of them was released from custody: Musa Malsagov was detained on suspicion of calling for mass riots and violence against a public official, and Barakh Chemurziev and Akhmed Barakhoev were suspected of attempting to use violence against a law enforcer.

Despite the persuasions of his relatives, Akhmed Barakhoev has been on hunger strike since April 4. This was a unique case for Ingushetia, since the Elder sought respect not only of his rights, but the rights of other people. On April 13, the Ombudsman for Kabardino-Balkaria convinced the Elder to stop his hunger strike.

An advocate of Akhmed Barakhoev asked the court to place the Elder under house arrest, given his age and state of health. Public prosecutor referred to the authority of Akhmed Barakhoev among the Ingush oppositionists, the "FortangaORG" public group on Facebook reports.

Akhmed Barakhoev believes his prosecution is politically motivated.
