Barakhoev's hunger strike at Nalchik IVS lasts for nine days

The Ingush elder Akhmed Barakhoev will not stop his hunger strike until his release from temporary detention centre (IVS) on April 13, his son Ilez said today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 4, Akhmed Barakhoev, a member of the Ingush Council of Teips, who is serving his administrative arrest in Nalchik, went on a hunger strike. Relatives and human rights defenders, fearing for Barakhoev' health, were trying to persuade him to stop his hunger strike.

Three leaders of the protests in Ingushetia ‑ Akhmed Barakhoev, Musa Malsagov, and Barakh Chemurziev were detained after the rally in Magas. Starting from April 3, they are serving 10 days of their administrative arrests in Nalchik.

Today is the ninth day of his hunger strike, Magomed Mutsolgov, the head of the "Mashr" human rights NGO, noted to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. He has added that he did not call up and did not meet Barakhoev today. "On April 13, at 11:00 a.m., Akhmed's administrative arrest is over. I plan to meet him tomorrow," Mr Mutsolgov has stated.

Ilez Barakhoev, Akhmed's son, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that he also did not visit his father today and did not call him up. "My father will definitely keep hunger-striking till his liberation from the IVS," he said.
