Ingush Ombudsman questions legality of keeping activists in Nalchik

The Prosecutor's Office of Ingushetia was asked to check whether law enforcers had the right to send the arrested Ingush activists to serve their terms in Nalchik, the capital of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR), Djambulat Azdoev, the Ingush Ombudsperson, has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that 12 activists detained in Ingushetia were transported to Nalchik. Three of them, protest leaders, were arrested; and one of them, the elder, Akhmed Barakhoev, on April 4 went on a hunger strike. A criminal case on the use of violence against policemen was initiated against nine activists.

Djambulat Azdoev has reported on the Facebook that on April 5, after lengthy negotiations, he achieved a meeting with the arrested protest leaders Akhmed Barakhoev, Barakh Chemurziev and Musa Masalgov.

According to his story, the hunger-striking Barakhoev demands a meeting with Mikhail Fedotov, the chairman of the Human Rights Council under the President of Russia, and Svetlana Gannushkina, an activist of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial".

Earlier, the advocate of the detained activists, Bagaudin Khautiev and Khavazh Dzaurov, complained that on April 4, law enforcers did not let him to his clients.
