Analysts point to threat of solo terror acts in Dagestan
Despite the decrease of the terrorist threat, the likelihood of new attacks undertaken by single terrorists persists in Dagestan, journalists and political analysts have stated.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 20, Magomed Baachilov, the head of the Dagestani branch of the "Rosgvardia" (Russian National Guard), announced the absence of active members of the armed underground in the republic.
We need a longer time to get sure that there are no militants left in Dagestan, said Magomed Magomedov, the deputy editor-in-chief of the "Chernovik" (Draft) weekly.
Milrad Fatullaev, the editor-in-chief of the RIA "Derbent", has pointed out that terrorist activeness in Northern Caucasus has diminished to zero. Sanctions and international pressure on Russia contributed to a closer attention of law enforcer to the region, he has noted.
The recent statistics and the absence of resonance militants' actions suggest that the old base of terrorist groupings that formed over the past 20 years, has been almost completely liquidated, Eduard Urazaev, a political analyst, believes.
At the same time, he has noted that the international terrorism maintains its positions in the information space, which leads to outbreaks of activeness of "dormant units" or recruiting new young people.
The political analyst has added that, despite the absence of complex terrorist groupings in Northern Caucasus, the threat of solo terror acts is still high.
