HRW treats Titiev's case as "shame of Russian justice"

The international Human Rights Watch (HRW) has demanded to immediately release Oyub Titiev, the head of the Grozny office of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial".

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Oyub Titiev will be sentenced on March 18. In the March 11 debates, the prosecutor asked four years of imprisonment and a fine for Titiev, who stated that the trial "broke the record of hypocrisy and cynicism," and expressed confidence that the sentence would be accusatory.

The case of Oyub Titiev was fabricated from beginning to end and intends to block the coverage of human rights violations in Chechnya, the HRW stated on March 15. "The fact that this case has, with no reason, gone so far is a colossal injustice towards Oyub and a shame for the Russian justice. Titiev initially should not have stayed behind bars for a single minute. But even now it's not too late to immediately release him and correct the injustice," the words of Rachel Denber, deputy director of the HRW for Europe and Central Asia, are quoted by the HRW's website.
