GPO challenges refusal to arrest Kocharyan's administration head

The court will consider the complaint of the General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) of Armenia on the refusal of the first-instance court to arrest Armen Gevorkyan, the former head of Robert Kocharyan's administration, who was accused under the case of dispersing demonstrators on March 1, 2008.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in August 2018, Armen Gevorkyan was accused of pressing a judge of the Constitutional Court of Armenia, which was considering a complaint about the outcomes of the 2008 presidential election, of which Serzh Sargsyan was declared to be the winner of. On January 29, the appellate court denied the GPO's demand to arrest of Gevorkyan.

Let us remind you that this February, the Special Investigation Service (SIS) of Armenia completed an inquiry into the unrests in March 2008 in Yerevan. Charges were brought against the second President of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan; the Defence Minister Seiran Oganyan; Yuri Khachaturov, the Secretary General of the CSTO (Collective Security Treaty Organization) and the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces; and Armen Gevorkyan, the Head of the Presidential Administration; all of them held the above posts during those events.
