Mother of Giyas Ibragimov, Azerbaijani activist, tells about plotted provocation against her son
Giyas Ibragimov, an activist, who is serving his sentence in an Azerbaijani colony on the case of drug dealing, is often searched, his mother, Shura Amiraslanova, has stated. She is sure that the colony staff is preparing a provocation against Giyas, and links it with the recent publication of her son's article on the "Meydan.TV" website.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in October 2016, Giyas Ibragimov and his co-thinker Bairam Mamedov were sentenced to ten years in prison each after finding them guilty of illegal drug dealing.
On February 6, Giyas Ibragimov phoned from the colony, said his mother, Shura Amiraslanova. According to her story, on the eve, Giyas's personal belongings were inspected in the barrack, where he is kept. The next day, her son was again searched.
"We believe that the new pressure on Giyas began after his article was posted on the 'Meydan.TV'," Ms Amiraslanova has noted.
In his turn, an employee of the public relations division of the Azerbaijani Penitentiary Service said that convicts are kept in the conditions as stipulated by the law. According to his version, disciplinary measures may be applied for violations of the internal regulations of the colony.
