Advocate explains Kocharyan's participation in "Case No. March 1" filming

Robert Kocharyan, the second president of Armenia, has just taken part in the "Case No. March 1" film by the Russian journalist Roman Babayan, but was not his customer thereof, the advocate Ayk Alumyan told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The above film was screened in Armenia in the evening on January 19 by Channel 5 TV and caused criticism of the relatives of the victims, who have treated it as an attempt to whitewash Robert Kocharyan's actions.

Mr Kocharyan has stated himself that he had not ordered Roman Babayan to make the film "Case No. March 1", Mr Alumyan asserts.

According to the advocate, when Kocharyan was at large, a certain Armenian businessman from Moscow called him and asked for an interview for a documentary film; he also assured that the first President of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan, the Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and a number of other key figures of the events on March 1, 2008, would also give interviews. Robert Kocharyan agreed to an interview only under these conditions; and he learned that Levon Ter-Petrosyan and Nikol Pashinyan refused to take part already during filming, Ayk Alumyan insists.

"The initiative of the film originated not from Kocharyan, but from Roman Babayan; respectively, neither Kocharyan nor his relatives paid anything to the journalist. Earlier, they had not even known each other," said the advocate.
