Social network users alarmed about plans to revise Dagestani-Chechen border

On January 20, the head of Dagestan treated the revision of the border with Chechnya as "a planned mandatory work." Social network users have noticed that Vladimir Vasiliev failed to answer the question about the concession of republic's territories.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 6, 2018, at the Media Forum of Northern Caucasus in Grozny, Vasiliev announced plans to discuss the border issues with the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov. He promised to take into account the Dagestanis' opinion when considering the border issues. Residents of Dagestan then warned that they were ready for protest actions if the issue arouse on changing the republic's border.

The Dagestani-Chechen administrative border has a clear historical background and needs no revision, Dagestan historians have stated.

"The definition of administrative borders between the subjects of the Russian Federation is a planned work that arises from the decisions of the president and the government," the head of Dagestan has stated.

At the same time, Mr Vasiliev did not rule out holding public hearings and referenda on this issue.

Social network users are alarmed by the position of the head of Dagestan.

Let us remind you that, in the opinion of political analysts interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot", after the Chechen-Ingush border agreement, the claims of Chechen authorities on the territory of other neighbouring regions were not excluded.
