Woman from Dagestan suspected of links with Syrian militants

A search has been launched for a woman from the city of Dagestanskie Ogni, who has left for Syria, and who, in the opinion of investigators, had organized a transfer of raised money to militants, the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) has announced.

Law enforcers believe that the woman crossed the Syrian border with the help of guides in September 2014. Later, she managed to pass the details of her bank card over to her relatives and friends. In 2014-2017, money for the needs of the terrorist grouping was transferred to this bank card, investigators assert.

A criminal case has been initiated against the woman under the articles of "Participation in the activities of a terrorist organization" and "Organization of financing terrorism". "Measures are being taken to establish her whereabouts and detain her," the Investigating Department (ID) for Dagestan of the ICRF reported on its website on January 18.

Each of the above articles provides for up to 20 years in prison.

It is not specified in the message how much money her relatives and friends had managed to transfer to the woman's bank card, same as the name of the grouping, of involvement in which she is suspected.
