Christmas services passed in Chechnya under strengthened security measures
This night, the Christmas holiday services were held in Chechnya under heightened security measures. In Grozny, the capital of the republic, there were also rescuers on duty near the Christian Orthodox churches.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on the eve of the New Year holidays, law enforcers had stepped up security measures in Grozny and on December 25 conducted a passport check. On New Year's Eve, in central Grozny, due to intensified inspections, an atmosphere of suspicion was felt, said the townspeople.
They pointed to increased security measures at the Church of Saint Michael the Archangel in the centre of the city.
Several police officers, sent from other districts, are all the time on duty at the church, Khamzat, a resident of Grozny, has added.
