NKR authorities ask residents to shelter fans from unrecognized states
Twelve teams from unrecognized states-members of the Confederation of Independent Football Associations (ConIFA) will take part in the championship to be held in the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR). Hotels may not cope with a large number of fans, the NKR's authorities fear. They are promoting the "Hospitable Family" programme, the participants of which will host foreign guests.
The ConIFA championship will be held in the NKR on June 3-15, 2019.
The ConIFA was established in 2013 and unites the national federations (often of unrecognized and autonomies states), which are members of the FIFA.
Twelve teams will take part in the next year's championship, the press service of the NKR's government reports.
"This event is a good chance for tourists and foreign journalists to visit the NKR; therefore, every effort should be made to properly hold the championship," said Grigory Martirosyan, a state minister of the NKR.
The NKR's Football Federation applied for hosting the ConIFA championship more than two years ago, but due to the April 2016 war, it was postponed, Mger Avanesyan, a deputy head of the NKR's "Lernain Artsakh" Football Club (FC), has explained.
