Ingush Alims ignore Sharia Court

The six religious leaders who had criticized the summoning of Ingush MPs to the Sharia Court have failed to appear at the Ingush Kadiate to defend their position. This was stated by the head of the Ingush Council of Teips (family clans).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 13, the Council of Teips of Ingushetia summoned the republic's MPs to the Sharia Court in order to establish how they had voted on the agreement on the Chechen-Ingush border. However, on December 15, only 10 out of 30 MPs came to the court session.

The coordinating centre of Muslims of Northern Caucasus accused activists of intimidating the Ingush MPs, calling the Sharia Court an attempt to put pressure on those MPs who had "voted wrongly."

In his turn, Malsag Uzhakhov, Chairman of the Council of Teips, has stated that the summoning to the Sharia Court was an opportunity for religious leaders to defend their point of view.

"We wanted them to prove at the Sharia Court, referring to the law and norms of Islam, that they were right ... But they didn't find it necessary to come there," he said.

Magomed Dzaurov, an adviser on religious issues, has justified the legality of the non-appearance of the majority of MPs to the Sharia Court session on December 15. He tried to prove the illegitimacy of the Ingush Kadiate, referring, in particular, to the fact that the Kadi Abdurakhman Martazanov "was elected by the Council of Alims, and not appointed by the head of Ingushetia Yunus-Bek Evkurov," Musa Abadiev, an activist, wrote on the Facebook.
