In Ingushetia, activists criticize law enforcers for their behaviour on border with Chechnya

Law enforcers insulted the feelings of the activists who wanted to hold a subbotnik (a volunteer cleanup day) on the lands handed over to Chechnya, stated members of the Ingush Committee of National Unity.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 20, members of the Ingush Committee of National Unity held a press conference at which they threatened to resume protests if they were not satisfied with the decision of the Russian Constitutional Court concerning the agreement on the administrative border with Chechnya.

Since October 4, Magas, the capital of Ingushetia, was the venue of a mass action against the changing the border with Chechnya. On November 17, members of the Ingush teips (family clans), whose ancestral towers are located in the Sunzha District, near the Fortanga River, decided to organize a subbotnik in the disputed territory that was handed over to Chechnya. Several activists were detained by law enforcers during the action.

A provocative rumour and remarks pushed the activists to hold a subbotnik on the lands handed over to Chechnya, noted Akhmed Barakhoev, a participant of the press conference, one of the leaders of protest actions in the republic. "Young people got information about a construction of an arch in the 'Itumkali District' in the Djeirakh District and appealed to the Organizing Committee with a request to organize a trip," Akhmed Barakhoev said.

He has noted that the subbotnik was not a political action. "We decided to hold a subbotnik without any ideological background. It is just public works to clean the territory," Akhmed Barakhoev added.

He has criticized the behaviour of the law enforcers whom the activists met. "I would like to appeal to those persons who wear military uniforms in the counterterrorist (CTO) zone, who insult the feelings of the young people ... This is not a pattern of Caucasian behaviour, Muslim behaviour, male and human behaviour. They caused a number of provocative moments," said the participant of the press conference.
