"Deep Rivers" highlights issue of national languages in films

Viewers of the film "Deep Rivers" directed by a film producer from Nalchik left emotional comments in social networks. The people who liked the film especially noted that its characters spoke the Kabardian language. Critics stated that the described defects are not typical for the Adyg people.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 26, the film produced by Vladimir Bitokov and shot in the Kabardian language gathered a full audience in Moscow. Immigrants from Kabardino-Balkaria pointed to the skillfully highlighted Caucasian flavour in the film and the relevance of the raised problems of family interrelationships and of native language.

The film "Deep Rivers" describes a story of a family living in the mountains and making a living by cutting wood. The plot can be a projection of the relations of Kabardino-Balkaria with the rest of Russia, Vladimir Bitokov noted.

Instagram users wrote about the pleasure of watching a movie in their native language. Meanwhile, some people called the film "immoral."

"Why the film shows the older brother who drinks alcoholic beverages? Why has the film been created in our language? What does it have in common with our people?" asks another viewer.

Let us remind you that in June, the film "Deep Rivers" was awarded the prize of the film festival "Kinotavr" for the best debut, and it gathered full halls at the International Festival in Karlovy Vary.
