In Moscow, the film "Deep Rivers" gathered a full hall in a cinema. Natives from Kabardino-Balkaria pointed to the skilfully highlighted Caucasian flavour in the film and the relevance of the raised problems of family interrelationships and of native language.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the film by Vladimir Bitokov, shot in the Kabardian language, gathered full halls at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
The film "Deep Rivers" describes a story of a family living in the mountains and making a living by cutting wood. The plot is focused on the conflict between three brothers and their relationship with the father as a projection of the relations of Kabardino-Balkaria with the rest of Russia.
Vladimir Bitokov highlighted the problem of the native language. According to the film story, the younger brother lives separately from his family members and has forgotten his native language.
"The sever story of the film reflects the state of mind of Caucasian people ... Constant conflicts, corruption and theft are a curse of the Caucasian peoples," noted viewer Ibagim Sereev.
"Will power and determination are the features of the Kabardian character that Vladimir Bitokov wanted to describe," added another viewer.
Let us remind you that critics have expressed different opinions in assessing the film. However, in particular, Nancy Condee, Professor of Slavic Studies at the University of Pittsburgh in the United States, considered the film to be very successful.
