Activists tell about the authorities' role in organizing Congress of the Ingush People

On the instruction of Yunus-Bek Evkurov, the Mayor of Nazran has provided the organizers of the World Congress of the Ingush People with the premises of the House of Culture, an activist Barakh Chemurziev said at a press conference. The organizers of the congress found it necessary to give the head of the republic an opportunity to speak, said Musa Malsagov.

At a press conference of the Ingush Committee of National Unity in Nazran, opponents of the border agreement with Chechnya announced that they had invited the head of the republic, Yunus-Bek Evkurov, to the World Congress of the Ingush People to be held on October 30.

Barakh Chemurziev has noted that the authorities welcomed the organizers of congress.

"The decision of the congress has moral force, because in our country, in accordance with the Constitution, the people are the source of power. At the congress, the concept of the further development of the republic will be worked out," he said.

The activist has stressed that the congress participants "have moral superiority over the official leaders," and added that the congress will be combined with mourning events in memory of the victims of the Ossetian-Ingush conflict.

The authorities' statements about activists' refusal to meet Evkurov on October 17 are false, said Barakhoev. According to his version, the organizing committee received no invitation to this meeting; however, later authorities accused them of rejecting a dialogue.
