Azerbaijan: international community to force Armenia to comply with UN resolutions

From the rostrum of the UN General Assembly, the Azerbaijani Minister of Foreign Affairs has reported that the Armenian authorities are to be forced to implement the resolutions on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in 1993, the UN Security Council adopted four resolutions related to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The UN Security Council confirmed that Nagorno-Karabakh was a part of Azerbaijan and called on for "respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan." The UN Security Council also stated "the inadmissibility of using force to acquire territories."

When speaking at the debate of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly, Elmar Mamedyarov, Azerbaijani Minister of Foreign Affairs, mentioned that "Armenia occupied" the fifth part of the territory of Azerbaijan. "Every ninth resident of the country is a refugee or an internally displaced person (IDP)," noted the Azerbaijani Minister. He called on the international community to exert pressure on the Armenian authorities, the UN News Russian Service reported on its website on September 28.

"We urge the international community to send a powerful signal and put pressure on Armenia to ensure its full compliance with international law and the immediate and unconditional commencement of the implementation of the relevant UN Security Council resolutions adopted with regard to the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict," stated Elmar Mamedyarov as quoted today by the RIA "News".
