"My Step" bloc wins elections to Council of Elders in Yerevan
The "My Step" bloc headed by comedian Hayk Marutyan gained 81.06% of the votes at the elections to the Council of Elders of Yerevan, the Central Election Commission (CEC) reported.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 23, the elections to the Council of Elders of Yerevan were held in the Armenian capital.
According to the preliminary information released by the CEC, 294,109 out of 370,300 voters gave their votes to the "My Step" bloc, which included the "Civil Contract" Party headed by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the "Sputnik-Georgia" reports today.
The "Prosperous Armenia" Party gained 25,219 votes (6.95%), and the "Luys" bloc got 18,111 votes (4.99%). The latter, despite failing to gain the threshold of 8% mandatory for blocs, will enter the Council of Elders in accordance with the Electoral Code, which provides for the mandatory presence of three political forces in the Council of Elders. The turnout at the elections to the Council of Elders of Yerevan reached 43.65%, the CEC reported.
Thus, Hayk Marutyan, who headed the "My Step" bloc, will take the post of the Mayor of Yerevan, the "news.am" reports.
