Azerbaijani ex-MP Gyultekin Gadjibeili reports lifting CoE sanctions from her
The sanctions of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), imposed based on the corruption inquiry held by the PACE, have been removed from Gyultekin Gadjibeili, an oppositionist and a former Azerbaijani MP. She is satisfied with the restoration of justice regarding her.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 27, the PACE Committee, based on the report of the independent inquiry group on corruption in the Assembly, imposed a lifelong ban on 14 Deputies to enter the buildings and take part in any activities of the Council of Europe (CoE). Ms Gyultekin Gadjibeili was among them.
In 2016, the website of the European Stability Initiative (ESI) posted an investigation report "Caviar Diplomacy-2" on the bribery of PACE Deputies, who took decisions beneficial to the Azerbaijani authorities.
Ms Gadjibeili has noted that she had got under the sanctions because of her refusal to cooperate with the inquiry team, although she was not invited to take part in any investigative actions, she said.
Djamil Gasanli, the chairman of the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF), has accused the authorities of lying with the aim to discredit the opposition. He believes that the rehabilitation of Gadjibeili is evidence of the fact that the Baku's "caviar diplomacy" has turned into a scandal and a fiasco for the ruling regime.
