Arrested Azerbaijani activist appeals against relatives' visits

Ruslan Nasirli, a member of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), kept at the SIZO (pre-trial prison), has demanded from the court to restore his right to be visited by family members and have telephone talks with them.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 25 this year, law enforcers detained Ruslan Nasirli, the chairman of the Mejlis of the Youth Committee of the PFPA, Agil Magerramov, a member of the Presidium of the PFPA, and Babek Gasanov, the head of one of the PFPA's district organizations. On May 31, the court dismissed the complaint about the arrest of Gasanov and Nasirli, and on June 1 – of Magerramov.

Law enforcers accuse the detained PFPA activists of money laundering. On August 3, the Centre for the Defence of Political Prisoners announced them to be political prisoners.

The family members of Ruslan Nasirli have stated that they had not seen him or even talked to him on the phone since May 25.

"Every inmate has the right twice a week to have telephone conversations, and once a week to be visited by close relatives; this right may be restricted by an investigating body only in special cases," said Fariz Namazly, an activist's advocate.
