Cooperation with Russia is treated as main mission by new Abkhazian General Staff Commander

On August 2, the Defence Minister of Abkhazia presented Major-General Vasily Lunyov as a candidate for the post of the Commander of the General Staff to Raul Khajimba, the President of Abkhazia, who expressed hope that the General would quickly join the staff of the country's Ministry of Defence (MoD).

"Your direct mission will concern the aspects of strengthening the cooperation with the Russian party, officials of the Russia's MoD and the units thereof deployed in our territory. We intend to further develop our strategic and defence cooperation," the press service of the president quotes Mr Khajimba as saying.

Vasily Lunyov has noted that he has come to head the General Staff "at a difficult time." "Today, at the sitting with the Defence Minister, we've just discussed the exercises underway in the adjacent territory; and, of course, the demonstration of this force requires us to take appropriate actions," Mr Lunyov is quoted by the website of the head of Abkhazia.

Let us remind you that on August 1, Georgia started the multinational NATO military exercises "Noble Partner 2018". Over 15 days thereof, more than 3000 servicemen from 13 countries will take part in them.
