Journalist Orkhan Djemal killed

In the Central African Republic (CAR), journalist Orkhan Djemal was killed together with his two colleagues while working on a documentary film about the private military company "Wagner". The information is confirmed by his wife and journalist Maxim Shevchenko.

Orkhan Djemal was a Russian journalist, a co-founder of the Muslim Union of Journalists in Russia, an author of the book "The Chronicles of the Five-Day War", dedicated to the military conflict between Georgia and Russia in South Ossetia in 2008.

Three Russian citizens killed in the CAR were identified as Orkhan Djemal, cameraman Kirill Radchenko, and director Alexander Rastorguev, the "Dozhd" (Rain) TV Channel reports with reference to sources from the Centre for Investigations.

Orkhan Djemal, Kirill Radchenko, and Alexander Rastorguev were working under a project related to the Centre for Investigations. They were shooting a documentary film about mercenaries of the so-called "Wagner Group". According to a source, the information about the deaths of the film crew members was confirmed by members of the UN mission in the CAR and local public sector employees.

No details of the journalists' murders are known. According to a source, the journalists were stopped at a checkpoint on their way from Bangui, the capital of the CAR, to the city of Bombari, but the further events are still not known.
