Borozdinovskaya villager suspected of recruiting a young woman for militants

Kurban Kurbanaliev, a resident of the Borozdinovskaya village, is suspected of attempting to recruit a young woman into the ranks of Syrian militants, and two of his fellow villagers are suspected of failure to report the above crime, reports the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). On the air of the local TV channel, the detainees pleaded guilty, but their relatives expressed doubts about the reliability of those confessions.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 12, six people were detained in the Borozdinovskaya village. Their relatives know nothing about the accusations brought against the detainees and are afraid to comment on the situation, said one of the villagers.

Kurban Kurbanaliev, a resident of the Borozdinovskaya village, is under investigation for attempting to recruit a young woman in the ranks of a terrorist organization, as well as intending to leave for Syria to join the ranks of fighters for the organization "Jaysh al-Islam," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been informed today by an official from the Chechen MIA.

"Two of his close friends, who are also residents of the Borozdinovskaya village, are being prosecuted under Article 205.6 of the Criminal Code (failure to report a crime). A woman from the Novogrozny village, whom Kurban Kurbanaliev attempted to recruit, is also under investigation," the MIA's official reported.

Other three residents of Borozdinovskaya, detained together with Kurban Kurbanaliev, are his friends. No criminal cases are instituted against them, the "Grozny" TV Channel reported on July 20.

In its news story, the TV Channel showed Kurban Kurbanaliev himself, who admitted he intended to study Islam in Turkey and then join the ranks of the terrorist organization "Jaysh al-Islam" in Syria.

The detainees' confessions were got under pressure, their relatives believe. "More than a week has gone after their detention, and now they were shown on TV. Why their relatives were not allowed to visit them? Why all that has become known right now? It is clear that they got the necessary confessions from the detainees during the past days, and the villagers were shown on TV just because the information was spread on the Internet," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by a resident of the Borozdinovskaya village.
