Slovakia extradites to Russia a native of North Ossetia accused of terrorism

Aslan Yandiev, a native of the Prigorodny District of North Ossetia, has been handed over to Russia by the Slovak authorities. In Slovakia, he was kept under extradition arrest since 2011.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Aslan Yandiev was detained in Slovakia at the request issued by the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). The man is suspected of having committed crimes in the territory of North Ossetia as a member of an armed grouping in the period from December 2005 to July 2006. In particular, according to the law enforcement bodies, in December 2005, members of the armed grouping shelled the "Vladikavkaz-2" power substation on the outskirts of the Zavodskoy village, and in February 2006, they bombed slot machine halls in Vladikavkaz. Relatives of Aslan Yandiev deny his involvement in the crimes.

On July 17, on its Facebook page, the Chechen association "Vayfond" reported about the extradition of Aslan Yandiev to Russia. "Today, the Slovak authorities handed over Aslan to Russia," the message reported.

Chechen blogger Tumso Abdurakhmanov, who hides from persecution in Poland, has also confirmed the extradition of Aslan Yandiev.

"The sad news came from Slovakia. Aslan Yandiev was extradited to Russia," Tumso Abdurakhmanov wrote on his Facebook page.

According to the "Kavkaz.Realii", Aslan Yandiev twice came to Slovakia, where he applied for asylum. In 2011, his application was refused and he was arrested at the request of the Russian MIA. Since then, he was kept under extradition arrest.
