Residents of Ingush village demand to restore road to North Ossetia (+video)

Residents of the Ingush village of Dolakovo demand to liquidate the ditch dug in 1992 and restore the road that connects the border villages of Ingushetia with the federal highway. However, the head of the North-Ossetian village of Zilga and the deputy head of the Pravoberezhny District of North Ossetia insist on preserving the ditch.

Since 1992, the road connecting the villages of Dolakovo and Zilga is cut by a ditch that runs along the Ossetian-Ingush border. Villagers on both sides are in good-neighbourly relations and are in favour of opening the road, but the authorities of North Ossetia insist on preserving the ditch.

In the autumn of 1992, an armed conflict broke out among Ossetians and Ingushes in the Prigorodny District of North Ossetia. According to the prosecutor's office, 583 people perished. Tens of thousands of Ingushes were forced to leave their historical residences.

Now, 26 years later, the wide and deep ditch, dug in the days of the Ossetian-Ingush conflict near the Ossetian village of Zilga, prevents residents of the Ingush villages of Kantyshevo and Dolakovo from making their shortest route to the federal highway Rostov-Baku. By the time the ditch was dug, Zilga and Dolakovo became related, Ibragim Dakhkilgov, a resident of Dolakovo, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"Someone needs this ditch and other moments of our life to remind about those events; and to maintain confrontation of the two villages," Yusup Shibilov, a local resident, believes.

According to Daud Akiev, the head of Dolakovo, the contradictions of local residents with those of Zilga are purely of the everyday nature.
