20 years not enough for authorities to solve problem of supplying water to Ingush villages

For two decades, in Ingushetia, water supply to small towns and villages ceases when hot weather comes, and people are deprived of water for the whole summer. This summer has not been an exception, and there is no water supply to a number of towns and villages for two weeks already, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was informed by residents of the villages of Plievo, Troitskaya, and Nasyr-Kort, and the towns of Sunzha and Karabulak.

The problem with water supply has not been solved for 20 years already, and the authorities do nothing to solve it, Magomed G., a resident of the Plievo village, complained to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"Earlier, we had water at least at night, and in the past two or three years, we got no drop of water in summer in general ... Starting from late May till middle of September ... Water is a deficit. In response to our repeated complaints ... local officials ... just shrug their shoulders. They always find some excuses ... They claim alleged shortage of some pumps and towers ... It's an unsanitary situation, when we cannot take shower or wash ourselves," the local resident said.

According to Magomed, when water is supplied in autumn, the central line of the water supply pipe starts to get breakthroughs everywhere, since the pipes are too old, and they were never changed since the Soviet era. "We had to call an excavator and repair those pipes by our own," he said.

In other villages and towns, residents also experience water supply problems.

"In Karabulak, not all streets experience problems with water supply. But in Ordzhonikidze Street, no water is supplied in a day, and it does not appear till night. The water pressure is very weak, and water disappears early in the morning. Therefore, we use the water we manage to collect overnight," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Ruslan Mutsolgov, a resident of Karabulak.

"In Troitskaya, water starts to appear at night ... Last year we addressed the head of the village. He replied there was no money for a new pump," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Milana, a resident of the Troitskaya village.
