Five people hospitalized after metro halt in Baku

A power outage in the evening on July 3 in Baku caused the metro stop. Passengers were evacuated from the trains stuck in the tunnels. The evacuation was carried out in extreme heat; and 17 persons complained about their poor health status; five of them were hospitalized.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night on July 3, an explosion occurred at one of the power station units in the city of Mingachevir, followed by a fire. The fire was extinguished, but the cities of Baku, Sumgait and other districts of Azerbaijan remained without electricity. The power supplies, disrupted by the accident, were restored at the same night in most of the country.

In the evening on July 3, around 7 p.m. local time, the power was cut off again in most of the Baku districts.

The power failures caused a stop of metro trains; some of them were stuck in tunnels. Entrances to all the metro stations were immediately closed. Evacuation of passengers was over by 8:30 p.m. local time, a source from the Ministry for Emergencies (MfE) told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

17 people turned to ambulances for help; most of them received medical care on the spot. However, five people were hospitalized for prophylactics. Their health condition is estimated as satisfactory, a spokesman for the Ministry of Public Health told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
