Film by director from Nalchik presented at Karlovy Vary Film Festival

The film "Deep Rivers" by Vladimir Bitokov, a film director from Nalchik, will be screened in the programme "To the East of the West" at the festival that opens in Karlovy Vary today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that this year, the "Deep Rivers", a film in the Kabardian language, received the prize of the "Kinotavr" Film Festival for the best debut, and polar ratings from critics.

The film is focused at the conflict of three brothers and their relationships with their father. The director noted that the relationships within the loggers' family with the villagers shown in the film can be watched as a sort of projection of the relationships of Kabardino-Balkaria with the rest of Russia.

The 53rd International Film Festival in Karlovy Vary presents many films from Eastern Europe, including from Russia and the countries of the former USSR, the "Kommersant" writes. The programme "To the East of the West" includes 12 films on topical issues, most often related to the fates of young people.

The film in the Kabardian language has received a special invitation to the festival; it will be the international premiere of "Deep Rivers", says the portal 07kbr.ru.
