After his excommunication from Ummah, Evkurov arranges Iftar for friends and Imams

The head of Ingushetia, Yunus-Bek Evkurov, has called on the Muftiate, which had boycotted him, to demonstrate peace in the holy month of Ramadan, and arranged a reception with Iftar (fast-breaking), which was visited by elders and Alims.

On May 27, the republic's Muftiate decided to remove Evkurov from the Muslim community, saying that he was oppressing the employees of the Muslims' Spiritual Centre of Ingushetia and the Imams. The renunciation from the community means that Muslims will not participate in his funeral, wedding and other events.

The confrontation of Mr Evkurov with the Ingush Muftiate lasts on for many years. The republic's leader announced the dissolution of the Muftiate and establishment of control over sermons in mosques; and the clergy threatened him with a Sharia trial.

On May 30, Evkurov called the statements against him as provocative and "incapable of influencing the situation in the republic," his press service has reported.

"Traditionally, in Ramadan, I get invitations to fast-breaking and visit respected people of the republic. Today I gladly received clergymen, elders, colleagues and friends at my home for the joint Iftar and prayers," Mr Evkurov wrote in his Instagram.

The Orientalists interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" have pointed out that Evkurov's renunciation from the Muslim community has no religious meaning. Today, this way of punishment is inactive, residents of Ingushetia have indicated.

Earlier, Magomed Mutsolgov, the head of the Ingush human rights organization "Mashr", said that the boycott of Evkurov was supported by about 50 of the most active Muslim preachers, that is, from a quarter to one-third of all the Ingush Imams.
