Dashnaktsutyun agrees to support Pashinyan

The parliamentary faction of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) "Dashnaktsutyun" is ready to vote for the election of the oppositional leader Nikol Pashinyan as the Armenian Prime Minister, Arsen Ambartsumyan, a representative of the ARF's Supreme Council, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that after the today's meeting with Serzh Sargsyan and Karen Karapetyan, the members Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) refused to nominate their candidate for the post of Prime Minister. The MPs from the "Tsarukyan" bloc also refused today to nominate their own candidate. They have stated their readiness to support the nomination of Nikol Pashinyan, the only to date candidate for the Premiership.

According to the Armenian Constitution, in the event of the resignation of the Prime Minister, parliamentary factions may nominate their candidates for the Premiership within seven days after the resignation. Serzh Sargsyan left his Premier's post under the opposition's pressure on April 23; therefore, the parliamentary factions have the right to nominate their candidates until 6:00 p.m. on April 30; and the election of the Prime Minister will be held on May 1: the National Assembly (Parliament) will elect the Prime Minister by the majority vote of the total number of MPs.
