Nikol Pashinyan warns RPA from nominating its candidate to be Prime Minister

Karen Karapetyan illegally assumed the Prime Minister's duties and proposed introducing a state of emergency in Armenia, states opposition leader Nikol Pashinyan. He has announced new protests and warned the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) from nominating a candidate for the post of the Prime Minister.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 25, delegates from the opposition "Elk" bloc unanimously voted to nominate their leader Nikol Pashinyan as the Prime Minister of Armenia.

On April 26, the opposition will continue the protests in Armenia to achieve its goal of removing the Republican Party of Armenia from power, states Nikol Pashinyan, the leader of the protesters. He has noted that the main goal of the protesters was namely the removal of the RPA from power, and the protestors achieved the resignation of Serzh Sargsyan from the post of the Prime Minister, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

The opposition leader has also noted that acting Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan "did not expect" that after the celebration of the Serzh Sargsyan's resignation on April 23 and the mourning events to mark the anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire on April 24, a large number of people would gather in the streets. According to Nikol Pashinyan, at a meeting with law enforcers held on April 25, Karen Karapetyan proposed to introduce a state of emergency in Armenia. According to Nikol Pashinyan, after studying the relevant laws, several lawyers came to the conclusion that after the resignation of the Prime Minister, no acting person could be appointed and in that case, Karen Karapetyan could only be acting First Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia.
