Rally in Baku demands to cancel election outcomes
The demand to abolish the results of the Azerbaijani early presidential election and create conditions for holding free election was put forward by the participants of the rally in Baku.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today about 1500 people came out to a rally against the election outcomes.
According to the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan, after the information from all polling stations had been processed, the Ilham Aliev's result at the early presidential election reached 86.3% of the votes. The opposition called the election to be illegitimate.
"The election was falsified, and the conclusion of the international observation mission is an eloquent confirmation. The falsification has been exposed to the whole world; international organizations state it; and the leading foreign mass media write about it," Ali Kerimli, the leader of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), has stated.
According to his story, the authorities tried to prevent the rally. "Eight PFPA members were subjected to administrative arrests; hundreds of activists were summoned to the police and threatened there," Mr Kerimli said.
The rally has adopted a resolution demanding to cancel the election outcomes, release political prisoners, stop pressing the free press, and create conditions for democratic elections. "Only after these conditions are in place, new election can be appointed; until then, the opposition will continue struggling," says the resolution.
