Sargsyan's opponents announce daily protest actions

Everyday protests against the preservation of power in the hands of Serzh Sargsyan will be held in all Yerevan districts until the election of the Prime Minister by the MPs on April 17, oppositionists have announced.

On April 9, the inauguration of Armen Sargsyan as the new President of Armenia was held; and the presidential powers of Serzh Sargsyan terminated. On April 17, the Parliament will elect the Prime Minister, who, in accordance with the recent constitutional reform, will be the first person of the state.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that a joint rally of the Front "For the State of Armenia" and the initiative group "Reject Serzh" in Freedom Square in Yerevan, held in the evening on April 9, gathered about 500 people, who demanded not to allow Serzh Sargsyan, the former President, to the post of the Prime Minister.

The rally turned into a match; and activists briefly blocked traffic in several Yerevan streets, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has reported.

According to activists, up to 200 people took part in the march.

As part of the daily protest actions announced by the organizers, an auto rally is planned in Yerevan on April 12; and on April 13, opposition activists are going to welcome Nikol Pashinyan, an MP and the leader of the "Civil Agreement" Party, and his supporters, who are making a walking march named "My Step" from the city of Gyumri to Freedom Square in Yerevan.
