Krasnodar zoo activists oppose "bloody football"

About fifty people went out to a picket in Krasnodar within the framework of the Fourth All-Russian campaign of zoo-defenders "The law is needed now!"

The picket was held on February 24 in the Chistyakov Grove of Krasnodar. The protesters held posters: "We demand to stop killings!", "We need no bloody football!", "Russia is for 18 years waiting for the law on animals' protection" and others. Many came with their pets.

The organizers named the need to attract people's attention to the "irresponsible attitude of Russian authorities" to the problem of neglected animals as the aim of the picket. The protesters have stated that for 18 years already, authorities fail to adopt the Federal Law "On Responsible Treatment of Animals", drafted by zoo-defenders.

The picketers' second demand was to stop the mass shooting of cats and dogs in streets of Russian cities on the eve of the upcoming Football World Cup.

"Unfortunately, on the eve of the World Cup in Russia, the same situation is observed as before the 2014 Winter Olympics: local officials launch mass liquidation of stray dogs and cats," Elena Nasedkina, an activist of the Krasnodar "Alliance of Animal Defenders", told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to her story, "there is still time to change the situation and stop the killings for the sake of shows and sporting achievements."
