Zagidat Abakarova released in courtroom

Zagidat Abakarova, a resident of Dagestan, sentenced today after her voluntary return from Syria, has persuaded the court to postpone her imprisonment for 13 years.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that today, the Soviet District Court of Makhachkala has found Zagidat Abakarova guilty under Part 2 of Article 208 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (participation in an illegal armed formation (IAF)) and sentenced her to eight years of imprisonment with a 13-year delay until her youngest child celebrates his 14th birthday.

Before the pronouncement of the verdict, Zagidat Abakarova was let to deliver her final speech. This was reported by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent who attended the trial.

"I admit my guilt. I fully admit the charge, and I ask you to postpone the execution of the verdict until my children celebrate their 14th birthdays," Zagidat Abakarova asked the court.

After that, the judge left for the advisory room. 30 minutes later, he pronounced the verdict in presence of journalists. "The court considers it possible to delay Zagidat Abakarova serving her sentence of imprisonment until her children reach the age of 14 years old," the judge explained.

Zagidat Abakarova takes care of four children, and three of them have not yet celebrated their 14th birthdays. The youngest daughter was born in 2017. This was explained to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by Patimat Abakarova, the mother of the sentenced woman.

According to her, she is unhappy with her daughter's sentence. "They sentenced her to too long term of imprisonment. Meanwhile, I am happy that they released her, and she is already at home," said Patimat Abakarova.
