Resident of Saint Petersburg accused of terror act arrested for two months
A Petersburg court has ruled to arrest the man accused of the explosion in the supermarket until the end of February.
The man was detained on December 30, 2017, and on December 31 he was charged with committing a terror act. Since his age of 19, he was on the record of the psycho-neurology dispensary; and to define his sanity, a forensic psychiatric examination will be appointed, investigators report.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 27, 2017, 18 people were injured by an explosion in the "Perekryostok" (Crossroads) Supermarket in Saint Petersburg. On December 28, Russian President Vladimir Putin called the incident a terror act. On December 29, it became known that the terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS), banned by Russia, claimed responsibility for the explosion.
On December 31, 2017, the Kalininsky District Court arrested the suspect for two months, the "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" reports citing the court’s press service.
The man has pleaded guilty; however, he intends to appeal against the arrest, the newspaper adds referring to its source.
