Natives of Dagestan and Ingushetia arrested for preparing terror act
Shamil Omargadjiev, a native of Dagestan, and Aliskhan Esmurziev, a native of Ingushetia, have been arrested along with other figurants in the case on preparing a terror act in Saint Petersburg.
Omargadjiev and Esmurziev were detained on December 15; they are suspected of illicit trafficking in arms and ammunition, the joint press service of city courts (known as OPS) has stated today.
Today, the Smolny Court has arrested Omargadjiev, Esmurziev and Kalavurov until January 14. Earlier, Russian citizens Evgeny Efimov and Anton Kobets were detained and arrested, who, according to investigators, had planned to commit a terror act in the Kazan Cathedral, the RIA "Novosti" reports referring to the OPS.
"The figurants have refused to plead guilty claiming that the firearms were planted on them," the OPS has stated.
On December 15, the FSB reported detention in Saint Petersburg of seven members of the "Islamic State" (IS), a terrorist organization, banned in Russia by a court. According to the FSB, they "planned terror acts by a self-suicide bomber in one of religious institutions, as well as killings of citizens and explosions of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in crowded places."
