Isa Gambotov's relatives link his persecution with Ossetian-Ingush conflict

Isa Gambotov, a resident of Ingushetia, is kept at the Vladikavkaz SIZO (pre-trial prison); the court has extended his arrest until next January on charges of a kidnapping. Law enforcers treat Gambotov as a member of a criminal grouping; however, his relatives insist on his innocence and associate his persecution with the 1992 interethnic conflict.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 13 the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) of North Ossetia reported about the detention of a member of the grouping which was kidnapping people in the 2000s.

According to law enforcers, the man, who was put on the federal wanted list back in August 2008, tried to escape detention, but "was caught in a neighbours' garden." The detainee had lived "in the neighbouring republic of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD)."

Zina Gambotova, Isa's sister, said that on October 11, in the village of Troitskoe in Ingushetia, some masked men, without showing any documents, "took him to Vladikavkaz."

Relatives believe that Gambotov's detention has to do with the events in the autumn of 1992 in the Prigorodny District of North Ossetia.

On October 30, Khulimat Torshkhoeva, Isa Gambotov's wife, appealed to the head of the republic Yunus-Bek Evkurov at the commemoration event of the victims of the Ossetian-Ingush conflict. According to her story, in 1992, she and her husband fled from Prigorodny District after Isa's two brothers were killed.

After Torshkhoeva's appeal, Gambotov's relatives had a meeting with members of the Security Council of Ingushetia, who advised them to "keep silent," Isa's sister said.
