"Sasna Tsrer" member Sergey Kyuregyan placed to punishment cell

Sergey Kyuregyan was placed to a punishment cell after he had delivered a speech at a court hearing in the Shengavit District Court of Armenia held on October 24. This was reported by his father Armenak Kyuregyan.

On July 17, 2016, an armed detachment "Sasna Tsrer" (Daredevils of Sasun) from among supporters of the "Constituent Parliament", captured the building of the police regiment of the patrol-and-post service (PPS) in Yerevan. The charges in the case on the capture of the building of the patrol-and-post (PPS) regiment were filed against 47 persons.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Sergey Kyuregyan was accused of taking hostages (Article 218 of the Criminal Code of Armenia) and arms trafficking (Article 235 of the Criminal Code of Armenia), together with other 46 members of the squad "Sasna Tsrer". He was arrested, but he appealed against the decision of the court. On August 26, in Yerevan, the Court of Appeal refused to grant the appeal and left Sergey Kyuregyan under arrest.

On October 24, a court hearing was held in the case against 11 members of the squad "Sasna Tsrer". Immediately afterwards, Sergey Kyuregyan was placed to the punishment cell.

"He delivered a speech at the trial and said that the national coat of arms on the wall behind the judge's back should in fact have been placed behind the defendants' backs, while a 'portrait of Cheburashka' (as he called the President of Armenia) could be placed behind the judge's back," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Armenak Kyuregyan.
