Cherkesova's mother asks Kokov to protect her son's rights

The mother of Aslan Cherkesov has addressed Yuri Kokov, the head of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) with a complaint about the actions of the staff of a Krasnoyarsk colony. She asked him to help in transferring her son to some colony in the Caucasus.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 9, the commission of the Federal Penitentiary Service (known as FSIN) started checking the reports of torture applied to Aslan Cherkesov, a native of Nalchik, and 47 other prisoners. On August 8, the Public Oversight Commission (POC) of the Krasnoyarsk Territory posted on the YouTube the "Video appeal of convict Cherkesov" to POC members, where Aslan Cherkesov claims torture and mockery in the colony.

The KBR authorities should intervene in the situation with violation of Cherkesov's rights, Valery Khatazhukov, a human rights activist, has stated.

According to Sonya Cherkesova, Aslan’s mother, from the first days of imprisonment in the above colony of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, her son was exposed to "unacceptable measures of torment, torture and moral humiliation."

She has added that "every time, checks of statements of violations of Cherkesov's rights are of a formal nature."
