Advocate states Mukhtarly’s health deterioration

The journalist Afghan Mukhtarly suffers from diabetes, and at the background thereof now complains of heart and stomach pains. Doctors observe his much faster heartbeat; however, he receives no proper medical care at the Baku SIZO (pre-trial prison), said his advocate Nemat Kerimli.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 29, Afghan Mukhtarly, who left Azerbaijan for Georgia in 2014, disappeared in Tbilisi. On May 30, he reported that he had been kidnapped and brought to Baku. There, he was charged with trespassing the border, smuggling and resisting a border guard.

Today, his advocate has visited Mukhtarly in Baku SIZO-1 and said that doctors had appointed treatment to Mukhtarly, but almost 10 days have passed, and he received neither prescriptions nor medicines.

According to Mr Kerimli, Mukhtarly suffers from diabetes mellitus. "After placing into custody, Afghan lost 21 kilos of his body weight," the advocate has stressed.
