On July 31-August 6, 2017, nobody fell victim to armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week of July 31-August 6, 2017, no one was registered as killed or wounded in the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

Detentions

On August 1, it became known that early in the morning on July 30, a house and yard in Oskanov Street in Nazran, where Khasan Esmurziev lived together with his wife and parents, was cordoned off by law enforcers. After the search of his house, Khasan Esmurziev was detained, and the law enforcers stated that they had seized a pistol and a grenade from the house. Meanwhile, according to the detainee's wife, the law enforcers beat her husband and planted the weapon. A day earlier, Magomed Ozdoev, another local resident, was detained in Nazran. According to the law enforcers, a pistol and a grenade were also found at his house. According to the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial", detainees Magomed Ozdoev and Khasan Esmurziev were tortured by law enforcers.

On July 30, Khasavyurt residents Magomed Nasibov and Nazhmudin Kurbangadjiev went to a mosque for a night prayers, but never returned. In the evening on July 31, their relatives learned that the men were detained and they were kept at in the OVD (Interior Division) for the city of Nalchik. In total, three persons were detained and brought to the OVD, including Magomed Nasibov, Nazhmudin Kurbangadjiev, and another person whose personal data were not reported. On August 1, the man reported that all three detainees were released and the OVD in Nalchik was visited by staff members of the Dagestani Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). On August 3, relatives of Magomed Nasibov and Nazhmudin Kurbangadjiev reported that the men did not return home.

On July 31, it became known that several days ago, in the city of Grozny, law enforcers detained a man suspected of involvement in an attack on Budyonnovsk in June 1995 as a fighter of a grouping led by field commander Shamil Basaev. The suspect rendered no resistance during his detention. According to a source from the law enforcement agencies, the detainee's involvement in the attack on Budyonnovsk "has been revealed and completely confirmed, including by his own confession."

  • Two natives of Northern Caucasus injured in shootout near “Wildberries” office in Moscow

  • In Volgograd, court recognizes absence of HIV therapy in prison hospital
