Azerbaijani opposition activist Gezyal Bairamly unable to move independently

Gezyal Bairamly, the deputy chair of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), who is being kept in custody at the Baku SIZO (pre-trial prison), has complained about the aggravation of her health problems. This was reported by her advocates.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 25, Gezyal Bairamly, the deputy chair of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), was detained when she was returning from Georgia. The State Border Service of Azerbaijan reported on seizure from the activist the undeclared amount of 12,000 US dollars and Gezyal Bairamly was arrested on charges of smuggling. In June, the Gezyal Bairamly's defence reported that the deputy chair of the PFPA suffered from joint disease and did not receive the necessary medical treatment at the SIZO.

Today, advocate Elchin Sadygov has visited Gezyal Bairamly at the Baku SIZO-1 and reported on the aggravation of her health problems. Gezyal Bairamly lost the ability to move independently. And she still receives no medical assistance, Elchin Sadygov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"She is not able to stand up and move without other people's help, and she is assisted by other prisoners. Gezyal Bairamly is not provided with any medical assistance. At best, she is given an anaesthetic of short-term action. Despite our appeals to the SIZO administration, Gezyal Bairamly is not even given a cane, with which she could move independently," reported the advocate.
