Defence of Afghan Mukhtarly requests to transfer his case to Georgian Prosecutor's Office

A Georgian advocate of Azerbaijani journalist Afghan Mukhtarly, brought from Tbilisi to Baku in late May, has appealed to the Georgian Chief Prosecutor with a request to take his client's case from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). The defender of Afghan Mukhtarly points out to the fact that according to one of the versions, the kidnapping of the journalist involved Georgian policemen.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Afghan Mukhtarly said that during the kidnapping, he was subjected to violence and beatings.

The defender of Afghan Mukhtarly requests that the investigation into the case of his client's kidnapping in Georgia would be carried out not by the MIA, but by the Chief Prosecutor's Office of the country.

Advocate Archil Chopikashvili has appealed to the Georgian Chief Prosecutor with an appropriate request. In his letter, the advocate requests that the Chief Prosecutor's Office should pick up the case about the Afghan Mukhtarly's kidnapping from the police, since the investigation carried out by the MIA cannot be trusted completely. Earlier, Afghan Mukhtarly has claimed that his kidnapping involved people in the uniform of the Georgian police, who spoke Georgian.

It should also be added that today, the Georgian opposition "United National Movement" (UNM) Party has demanded the resignations of the Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister of Internal Affairs and the chief of the Georgian State Security Service (SSS) in connection with the Afghan Mukhtarly's kidnapping.
