Political prisoner found dead at Baku SIZO

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has learned about the death of the activist Mekhman Galandarov, who had been declared a political prisoner by Azerbaijani rights defenders, from Ogtai Gyulyalyev, the head of the public alliance "Azerbaijan without Political Prisoners". In his turn, he learned about it from the activists’ relatives. According to Mr Gyulyalyev, Mekhman had committed suicide, although there is still no information about his suicide note.

Galandar Mukhtarly, one of Mekhman’s close friends, has confirmed information about his death to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent; he also called suicide as the main version of the incident.

The SIZO (pre-trial prison), where Mekhman Galandarov was held, is located in the village of Kyurdakhany, the Sabuchi District of Baku. The inquiry into his death is conducted by the local prosecutor's office, a law enforcement source told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. The activist committed suicide, he has confirmed.
