Chechen law enforcers report on 16 militants killed during three months

In the period from January to March, in Chechnya, 16 militants were killed and 51 people were detained on suspicion of involvement in the armed underground. This was reported by officials from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for Chechnya. The law enforcers have also noted a multiple increase in those figures as compared with the same period of 2016.

On April 24, the regional MIA's collegium with the participation of the leader of the republic and the chiefs of the law enforcement agencies and units summed up the results of the operative and preventive activities of the Chechen law enforcement agencies. This was told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by a Chechen MIA's officer.

The MIA's has also noted that according to the release information, in the period from January to March, during special operations, 16 militants were killed, other 51 people were detained on suspicion of involvement and complicity to the armed underground, including a leader of a militant grouping, and eight other people were persuaded to surrender voluntarily.

"During the same period, in the territory of the republic, law enforcers destroyed 11 hidings and hideouts with weapons and ammunition, seized 53 firearms, 30 mines, 34 projectiles of various calibre, 57 grenades, three IEDs (improvised explosive devices), more than 30 kilograms of explosive substances and about 4000 cartridges for firearms," said the police officer.
