Adnan Khuade found guilty of attempting to bribe

Today, a court in Maikop has found Adnan Khuade, a Circassian activist, guilty of an attempt to commit a petty bribery, his advocate Iland Abregov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Adnan Khuade, a repatriate from Turkey, was accused of an attempt to bribe a GIBDD (traffic police) inspector. On December 28, 2016, during debates at the Maikop City Court, the prosecutor asked the court to find Khuade guilty of an attempt to commit a petty bribery, thus reclassifying the charge against the activist.

"Adnan Khuade has been punished with restriction of liberty for 1 year and 8 months. With account of the time spent by him in custody and under house arrest, the activist will have no right to travel outside the city for four more months," said Iland Abregov.

He added that Khuade would appeal against the sentence, as he considers himself innocent. "For us, the verdict was expected. The court dismissed our petitions for appointment of examinations – the linguistic, psychological and video technical ones The court also rejected the petition asking to exclude the examination protocol of the crime scene from the case files; that is, the court did not consider the fact that the time in the protocol in fact contradicts the actual circumstances of the case, and is contrary to the video," said Abregov.

The verdict against Khuade is once again confirming the activist's statement that his prosecution is of pronounced political character, Valery Khatazhukov, the head of the Kabardino-Balkarian Human Rights Centre, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent in his turn.
