CDSI reports 318 deaths of servicemen of South-Caucasian countries in 2016

At least 221 persons, who took their service in security and defence structures of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia, were killed in the warfare; and at least 97 persons perished in non-combat conditions during the past year, the Caspian Defence Studies Institute (CDSI) has reported, adding 20 perished volunteers.

The figures were obtained on the basis of monitoring official reports and mass media.

According to the CDSI, the security and defence units of Armenia (including Nagorno-Karabakh) lost 165 perished and killed people, Azerbaijan – 147 and Georgia – 6 persons.

"Most victims were registered during the escalation (of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, – note of the "Caucasian Knot") on April 2-5, 2016. Then, according to official data, losses of Azerbaijan made 92 persons, of Armenia – 77 persons. However, the actual number of losses may be different, as the MoDs of both parties used to state that the opponent's losses were greater," Djasur Sumerinli, the Director of the CDSI, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
